Independent University, Bangladesh held its 25th convocation at the university campus of Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka on Saturday.

The IUB鈥檚 1,969 students were conferred on undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the convocation, said a press release.


Presided over by Professor M Aminul Islam, special assistant to the Ministry of Education, Bangladesh Bank governor Ahsan H Mansur was the convocation speaker and Professor Md Saidur Rahman, member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, attended as guest of honour at the ceremony.

Aminul Islam said, 鈥楾o succeed in your professional life, regardless of what you pursue in the future, you must have two essential tools 鈥 skills that will enable you to compete with the world. One of these is proficiency in speaking and writing English, and the other is expertise in using computers. If you possess these two skills, you will be able to compete strongly in any field.鈥

Ahsan H Mansur said, 鈥業f you take responsibility, you must do it the right way. You should not pursue professions you may not like. Do what you enjoy because fulfilment in life comes only when you genuinely like what you are doing.鈥

Saidur Rahman said, 鈥業nnovation is the cornerstone of progress, and as a nation, we must build an environment where creativity and new ideas can flourish.鈥

Mohammad Zakaria Khan, Chairman of the Education, Science, Technology and Cultural Development Trust, said, 鈥楢lways face the truth and speak the truth. Be brave enough to say 鈥渘o鈥 when you see a wrong being committed. Otherwise, we will never have peace.鈥

Didar A Husain, chairman of the IUB board of trustees, said, 鈥榃e must share some of our good fortune with those who are less privileged. It is simply about making it a habit. This is how we want to build our country, and you, the graduates, are our champions 鈥 for IUB and for the nation.鈥

The IUB vice-chancellor Professor M Tamim said, 鈥楲earning is a life-long process, and I expect you to keep learning as you advance. Without being curious, you won鈥檛 be able to learn.鈥

The Deans of six academic schools also spoke at the event. Treasurer Khandker Md Iftekhar Haider delivered the vote of thanks, while registrar Md Anwarul Islam moderated the ceremony.
