Primary and mass education ministry adviser Professor Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar on Saturday said that there was no alternative to education in the fight against poverty.
Noting that Bangladesh is a developing nation, he said that the path ahead was long and ambitious, with the eradication of poverty and inequality being major challenges.
The adviser came up with this while addressing the 12th convocation of Daffodil International University held at its campus at Birulia in Savar.
Referring to the July-August student-led uprising, he stressed that the values of social equality, elimination of hunger and illiteracy, and the creation of a prosperous and self-reliant nation must be the guiding principles for future generations.
‘This commitment to progress is what Bangladesh expects from its students. Students are the future leaders of the nation, and you will lead the country in various fields,’ he added.
Former Lebanese prime minister Professor Hassan Diab was the convocation speaker while Md Sabur Khan, chairman of the Trustee Board of Daffodil International University, and Professor Md Lutfur Rahman, the university’s vice-chancellor, also spoke at the programme, among others.
A total of 3,951 graduates were awarded degrees during the year’s convocation. In addition, 12 outstanding graduates were presented with gold medals in various categories in recognition of their academic achievements.
