The hanging body of an assistant sub-inspector of police was recovered from a government quarter in Rajshahi city early Tuesday.
The deceased is Aminul Islam, 35, son of late Azim Uddin Pramanik of Shibnagar area under Manda upazila in Naogoan.
He was assigned to Detective Branch of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.
Sabina Yeasmin, additional deputy police commissioner of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said that Aminul used to reside in government quarters in the Helenabad area in the city with his wife and twelve-year-old daughter.
She said that after finding her husband’s hanging body in a room of their quarters, Aminul’s wife called the Rajpara police at about 3:30am.
‘On information, police officers rushed there and found Aminul hanging from a ceiling fan with a sari wrapped around his neck,’ she added.
Sabina Yeasmin said that Aminul had disputes with his wife over family matters, which might have led him to commit suicide.
Ashraful Islam, officer-in-charge of the Rajpara police station, said that an unnatural death case was lodged with the police station on Tuesday noon, and they had sent the body to the Rajshahi Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
‘The cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report is received,’ he added.
