
Traffic chaos was created in many areas in the Dhaka city due to road blockade, processions of political activists and construction of development activities in the capital on Wednesday that caused immense sufferings to the citizens.
In many places, traffic congestions were also created for illegal parking on roads that narrowed down the traffic movement.
Immense traffic congestions were seen in different areas, including Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Asadgate, Farmgate, Paltan, Moghbazar, Hatirjheel and Badda.
The members of erstwhile Bangladesh Rifles, who were dismissed and imprisoned after the 2009 BDR massacre, and their families on Wednesday afternoon blocked the road in front of Khadya Bhaban near secretariat to press home their demands, that included their colleagues’ release and reinstatement of their jobs.
They blocked the road at about 1:00pm and continued till filing the report at about 5:30pm.
Several hundred activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party were seen holding processions and chanting slogans at about 1:00pm at Satmasjid Road in Dhanmondi creating immense congestions in the area during the school hours.
In Badda, people were seen stuck in heavy traffic as construction of Metrorail Line-1 was underway in Pragati Sarani area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional commissioner for Traffic Md Sarwar told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they had diverted vehicles in other roads due to the blockade on Abdul Gani Road and it created pressure on other roads.
‘Indiscriminate road digging at places, including Airport, Ramna and Pragati Sarani also causes of traffic congestions,’ he added.
