United International University hosted a distinguished delegation from The World Bank on Wednesday.

The delegates visited the futuristic and state-of-the-art innovation hub of the university which sets an example to other university innovation hubs around the country, said a press release.


The delegation was led by Martin Raiser, regional vice-president, South Asia Region, and Gayle Martin, country director (interim), Bangladesh and Bhutan, The World Bank.

The team also included Mathew A Verghis, regional director, Prosperity Practice Group, Gabi George Afram, finance, competitiveness, and investment, SAR, Souleymane Coulibaly, country lead economist and program leader, Prosperity, Hosna Ferdous Sumi, senior private sector specialist, FCI, SAR, Sophie Dong, financial sector specialist, FCI, SAR, Georga Louise Mcnally, junior professional associate, SARVP office, Mehrin A Mahbub, senior external affairs officer, The World Bank and Md Faruk Hossain, programme associate, Prosperity.聽

During their short visit, the delegates joined in a discussion on the condition of tech entrepreneurship in Bangladesh, the prospect of research to commercialisation endeavours and also met with the selected student team and mentors from Launchpad By UIHP@UIU - an innovation cohort for young start-ups.

The programme was chaired by professor Abdullah Al-Mamun, director of institute of research, innovation, incubation and commercialisation at UIU and the delegates were warmly welcomed by UIU vice-chancellor professor Abul Kashem Mia.
