A case was filed on Thursday against 15 staff of the western railway on charge of beating a member of the Bangladesh Army at Rajshahi Railway Station on Wednesday night.
The victim, Ismail Hossain, lodged the case with the Rajshahi Railway police station against seven named and seven to eight unnamed people, said the police station officer-in-charge Faisal Bin Ahsan.
The named accused are Rajshahi Railway Station carriage attendant Sabbir Hossain Jholok, guard Ali Azam, carriage attendant Muncheher Ali, power car operators Al-Amin Ali and Mostafizur Rahman, AC operator Monir Hossain and PA operator Istiaq Ahmed.
Following the incident, the army members collected the CCTV footage of Rajshahi Railway Station early Thursday, and by reviewing the footage, they detained accused Muncheher, Monir, and Mostafizur in a drive on Thursday at the railway station.
OC Faisal Bin Ahsan said that the army personnel handed over the three accused to them. ‘We later sent them to jail through a court on Thursday.’
According to the complaint, Ismail was traveling from Joydebpur to Rajshahi on the Silk City Express with a standing ticket as no seating tickets were then available.
A ticket examiner checked and validated his ticket. However, upon reaching Abdulpur Railway Station, railway staff, including guard Md Ali Azam and carriage attendants asked to see his ticket again. When the army personnel requested the presence of the TTE for verification, an argument ensued.
Upon arrival at Rajshahi Railway Station around 10:40pm, a group of 15 railway staff, including the named accused, began punching and kicking the soldier following the heated argument in the train.
‘Sabbir Hossain Jholok allegedly grabbed me by the throat with the intention of killing, while Ali Azam reportedly instructed others to break my legs and throw me under a running train,’ the soldier mentioned in the complaint.
Ismail also mentioned that he became unconscious and fell down on the platform when Mostafizur Rahman punched him in his head.
With the help of the police, he, later, was taken to the Combined Military Hospital in Rajshahi for medical treatment, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Rajshahi Railway Station manager Moyen Uddin said that the army members detained the guard and attendants when they came to the railway station for duty on the Banalata Express train in the morning.
