The second phase of the 58th Bishwa Ijtema begins on Friday and it will end with the Akheri Munajat on Sunday.
The district administration on February 9 handed over the Tongi Ijtema ground to the followers of Saad Kandhalvi for holding the second phase, said Mohammad Sayem, media coordinator for Saad followers on Thursday.
Since the holy Shab-e-Barat falls on the same day, thousands of devotees would participate in the Ijtema ground to observe the night of fortune, Sayem added.
The 2nd phase of the ijtema will begin with ‘Aam Bayan’ [general sermon] after the fajr prayers.
Muslims from different districts and other parts of the world have started pouring into the Ijtema ground.
‘The ‘Bayan Mancha’ has been set up for domestic and foreign devotees in the northwest of the Ijtema ground,’ Sayem said, adding that special accommodation was arranged for foreigners on the west side of the Bayan Mancha.
He said that that the army and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority had constructed a floating bridge over the Turag River for smooth transportation of the devotees.
Gazipur metropolitan police deputy police commissioner (crime-South) NM Nasir Uddin told BSS that the law enforcement agencies would perform their duties with sincerity and responsibly in the second phase like the previous times.
‘We seek everyone’s all-out cooperation to conclude the Ijtema peacefully,’ he added.
Gazipur additional deputy commissioner Md Wahid Hossain said that after completion of the second phase, the ground would be handed over to the district administrator again on February 18.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Thursday issued a set of directives to ensure smooth traffic management around the Bishwa Ijtema ground in Tongi.
‘Traffic directives have been issued to ensure smooth vehicular movements and public safety during the Bishwa Ijtema on February 14-16 including the Akheri Munajat,’ deputy commissioner (media) of DMP Muhammad Talebur Rahman said.
DMP outlined specific routes and restrictions for vehicular movements to avoid congestion around the Ijtema ground during the second phase of Ijtema in Tongi, he said.
