A team of the DNCRP conducted an operation in Khatunganj, the city’s largest wholesale consumer goods market, said DNCRP Chattogram Divisional Director Mohammad Fayez Ullah.
Fayez Ullah said, ‘We have received information that bottled soya bean oil is not available on the market as distributors are not distributing it properly to retailers.’
He said, ‘We found bottled soya bean oil in stock at M/S Al Amin Store, and fined it Tk 20,000.’
He also said, ‘We also fined Satkania Store, a distributor of Pusti oil, Tk 50,000 for storing soya bean.’
The accused distributors, however, claimed that the bottles found in their stores were already sold and were not part of their active stock.
When asked about the ongoing oil shortage, Md Shahjalal, a distributor of soya bean oil, said, ‘Only the companies can explain the reason behind the crisis. If I get oil, I sell it, and if I do not get it, I stop sales.’
