Cultural organisation Samageet on Friday celebrated the arrival of Basanta organising a music festival and dedicated it to the student-led mass uprising that ousted Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League regime on August 5 in the past year.

With the theme July Uprising: A Culture of Equality, Samageet also celebrated the music festival鈥檚 eighteenth anniversary at BotTola in front of the Arts Building at Dhaka University, said a press release.


The event commenced with a violin performance of raag Vrindavani Sarang by Bidyut Sarkar and Piyas Akbar. Following this, students of Amader Pathshala, dressed in vibrant attire, performed a dance to welcome the arrival of spring.

A special segment was held as part of this year鈥檚 festival, dedicated to Professor Anu Muhammad.

Professor Anu Muhammad said that preserving the diversity of class, ethnicity and religion while fighting against inequality was the primary means of fostering love in society.

The programme continued with musical performances by artistes Kafil Ahmed, Krishnokoli, Sayan and the music bands Leela, Samageet, Ganga Phoring, Rere, Sudos on a Wrong Route and Amoulik.

Traditional bottle dance performed by Saching Mong Marma and another dance by Akramul Hijra also mesmerised the audience.

The music festival continued from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
