Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti on Saturday celebrated its 53rd founding anniversary renewing the call to implement the Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord as hill people’s fate remained unchanged even after signing of the accord in 1997.

Blaming governments’ unwillingness for the non-implementation of the peace accord, speakers at an event marking the day said that the government was betraying them without implementing it as the accord was signed following a long struggle.

The slogan of the event was to resist all kinds of conspiracies against CHT accord and Jumma people and create greater movement for implementing the accord, said a press release of the PCJSS.

‘Jumma people are leading a suffocating life as the security forces suppress the hill people now by conducting Operation Uttaran like the previous operation Dabanal,’ said PCJSS vice-president Ushatan Talukder addressing as chief guest at a mass rally and discussion in Rangamati on the day.

PCJSS central member KS Mong Marma said that successive governments did not show any will to implement the CHT accord since 1997.

‘The interim government is talking about anti-discrimination but its reflection is low in reality,’ said KS Mong Marma addressing as spcial guest.

He said that there must be representatives for all oppressed and tortured people when it comes to reforming the state.

He urged the government to give priority on the CHT accord implementation.

PCJSS senior central member Sadhuram Tripura inaugurated the event, which was chaired by its central member Gunendu Bikash Chakma.
