Chief adviser Muhammad Yunus on Saturday said that the ultimate goal of the interim government was to make the July charter by reaching a consensus over reforms with political parties.
鈥業f I say that there is no need for reforms, people will laugh at鈥e are not saying we do not need reforms. But we need reforms deeply,鈥� he said while delivering his closing remarks at the first meeting of the National Consensus Commission with the political parties at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
The chief adviser observed that there was no limit of misdeeds while no institution was running properly and no law was operational fully.
He said that the reforms were needed, asking who would oppose it. 鈥業f the political parties reach a consensus over reforms, implementing those will be easy.鈥�
鈥楬ere, you will not get enough chance to oppose it鈥f there is objection, it would be corrected,鈥� Yunus said, adding that they were united over reforms.
That is why, the ultimate goal is to prepare a charter 鈥� July Charter 鈥� by reaching consensus over reforms. How the charter will be implanted will be discussed later but reaching a consensus is very important, he added, mentioning, 鈥業f we could not reach a consensus, there will be no way.鈥�
Yunus, also the chairman of the National Consensus Commission, said that the reform proposals of the six reform commissions would be uploaded in a website where all political parties would be able to give their opinions on those.
鈥楢fter getting your opinions, we will decide what can be done to this end,鈥� he said.
The CA said once that the July Charter was prepared, and it would be sent to political parties to sign and then it would be preserved at museums and other places. 鈥楾he charter must be proclaimed in any way to sustain the country as a state.鈥�
鈥榃e have to do it (the charter)鈥inal word is that we are not free from it. We have no way of getting out of it. This is my appeal to you. You will be able to do it,鈥� he mentioned. Leaders from various political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, LDP, Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar), Nagarik Oikya, Islami Andolan, Khelafat Majlish, Gano Sanghati Andolon, Gonoadhikar Parishad, and Jatiya Nagarik Committee attended the meeting with chief adviser Muhammad Yunus in the chair.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir led the BNP delegation at the meeting, which was also attended by members of National Consensus Commission, including Prof Ali Riaz, Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, Safar Raj Hossain, Badiul Alam Majumder, Justice Emdadul Haque and Iftekharuzzaman.
