Rail communications between Sylhet and the rest of the country were suspended for about 11 hours after a compartment of an oil-laden train coming from Chattogram derailed in the Parairchak area under Dakshin Surma upazila in Sylhet on Saturday.
The derailment took place at about 10:30pm on the day.
Sylhet Railway Station manager Nurul Islam said that the rail communications resumed at around 8:30am on Sunday after completion of the rescue operations.
He said that the passengers of a Dhaka-bound and a Chattogram-bound trains suffered seriously due to the suspension of train services throughout the night as they were forced to stay at the station for a long time.
The station manager added that the intercity train- Upaban Express could not leave Sylhet for Dhaka on Saturday night and Kalni Express, which was supposed to reach Sylhet on Sunday morning from Dhaka, was delayed for about three hours.
‘The authorities of the railway department have formed a three-member committee to probe into the derailment and asked the committee to submit its report within three working days,’ he said.
