
Bangladesh Army runner Najimul Hossain Roni broke a 31-year-old record in the men鈥檚 400-metre hurdles as three new national records were created on the second day of the 48th National Athletics Championship at the National Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Roni clocked 50.84 seconds to break the previous record of 51.87 seconds set by Navy鈥檚 Abdurrahim Nayeem in 1993.
Another Army runner, Borsha Khatun, clocked 1:04.61 seconds to set up another new national record in the women鈥檚 400-metre hurdles, breaking the previous record of 1:04:70 seconds by Libia Khatun of Army in 2022.
In the women鈥檚 100-metre relay, Navy鈥檚 Shirin Akter, Kabita Roy, Sumaiya Dewan, and Sonia Akter took 46.43 seconds to set up a new national record.
The previous record of 48.10 seconds was created in 2022 by Sharifa Khatun, Sumaiya Dewan, Sonia Akter, and Barsha Khatun of the Army.
Following the second day of the competition, there were 28 events in all, with Army leading the table with 43 medals (15 gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze), followed by Navy with 33 medals (13 gold, 12 silver, and 8 bronze).
Earlier on day one, Navy athlete Golam Sorowar set a new record in the shotput event聽 by clearing 15.50-metre distance to break his own record of 14.89-metre that he made in February 2024.
