
Police have identified seven people and arrested three of them so far in connection with hacking a couple with machete at Uttara in the capital Dhaka at about 9:00pm on Monday.
A video footage of the incident went viral on social media platforms and the incident of hacking outraged people.
The arrested are Robi Roy, 22, Md Mobarak Hossain, 25, and Afzal Hossain, 23.
Victims Mehbubul Hasan, 37 and his wife Nasrin Akter Dipti, 28, are now undergoing treatment at the Evercare Hospital in the city.
The incident took place at Uttara sector 7 over an altercation between rickshaw passengers and motorcyclists after two motorcycles allegedly pushed the rickshaw from behind, according to police.
Uttara West police station officer-in-charge Hafizur Rahman said that they had identified seven people and arrested three of them involved in the attack.
He said that police arrested one from the spot and another was detained by local people and was handed over to them. ‘We have sent them to court. Police also arrested another accused Afzal from Abdullahpur area Tuesday afternoon,’ the OC added.
Nasrin Akter Dipti filed the case with the police station on Tuesday under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
