
At least two more youths were arrested on Wednesday over hacking a couple with machetes at Uttara in the capital Dhaka at about 9:00pm on Monday.
Police have arrested five people out of seven identified in the attack so far.
The fresh arrested are Sajib, 20, and Mehedi Hasan Saif, 24, while Robi Roy, 22, Md Mobarak Hossain, 25, and Alfaz Hossain, 23, were arrested earlier, according to police.聽
鈥榃e arrested Sajib and Saif at Mazar Bosti area at Tongi in Gazipur following information by Alfaz Hossain who was arrested on Tuesday afternoon,鈥 said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Uttara Division deputy commissioner Rawnak Jahan at a press conference at the DMP Media Centre.
She said that they also seized two machetes and two motorcycles used in the attack.聽
The incident took place at Uttara sector 7 at about 9:00pm on Monday over an altercation between rickshaw passengers and motorcyclists after two speeding motorcycles allegedly pushed the rickshaw from behind, according to police.
Victims Mehbubul Hasan, 37 and his wife Nasrin Akter Dipti, 28, are now undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the city.
Video footage of the incident went viral on social media platforms and the incident of hacking outraged people.
Nasrin Akter Dipti filed a case with the Uttara West police station on Tuesday under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
