Activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, allegedly cut off tendons of a leg of an activist of Students Against Discrimination of Murari Chand College in Sylhet on Wednesday night over a Facebook post.

The injured is Mizanur Rahman Riyad, a third-year English department student and a resident of the Room 101 of the first block of the student hostel, the hostel residents said.

They said that the incident took place following a 鈥榝rustrating comment鈥 on Riyad鈥檚 Facebook timeline about the outcome of the student-led mass uprising in July-August that forced the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.聽

Riyad鈥檚 roommate Juned Ahmed, also a master鈥檚 student of the Bangla department, told 抖阴精品 that a group of some 12 leaders and activists of Shibir armed with hockey sticks, iron rods and sharp weapons, entered the victim鈥檚 room at around 11:00pm.

鈥楾hey kicked Riyad off the bed and beat him mercilessly and, at one point, also cut off the tendon of one of his legs,鈥 Juned said.

Riyad stated in his status that people of the country were not getting the results of the mass uprising for which the students sacrificed their lives and participated in the anti-discrimination movement.

The MC College unit ICS president, Ismail Hossain Khan, however, denied any kind of involvement of their organisation in the incident.

鈥業t鈥檚 a conspiracy against Shibir to tarnish its image,鈥 he added.聽

Riyad鈥檚 fellows said that they took him to the Sylhet Osmani Medical College early Thursday after rescuing him from the spot in a serious condition.

When contacted, MC College Student Hostel鈥檚 First Block supervisor assistant professor Musleh Uddin told 抖阴精品 that steps were taken for proper treatment of the injured student.

鈥楨fforts are going on to identify those involved in the attack on Riyad,鈥 he said in the afternoon, adding that college authorities were also informed of the incident.

The college principal, professor Abul Anam Riyaz, told 抖阴精品 that a five-member committee was formed to investigate the incident.

鈥榃e do not want repeat of such incidents in future on the college campus,鈥 he added.聽 聽
