
The 22nd convocation of the American International University-Bangladesh was held at the university’s permanent campus in Kuril, Dhaka on Saturday.
Salehuddin Ahmed, adviser to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology, presided over the ceremony and conferred degrees upon the graduating students, said a press release.
Professor SMA Faiz, chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, attended as special guest while Professor Salimullah Khan, writer, scholar, and recipient of the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2024, served as convocation speaker.
Nadia Anwar, chairman and founder member of the AIUB’s board of trustees, Professor Saiful Islam, vice-chancellor of the AIUB and Professor Md Abdur Rahman, pro-VC of the AIUB, also delivered speeches on this occasion.
Salehuddin Ahmed congratulated the 2,547 graduates who successfully completed all academic requirements in various disciplines of bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes were conferred degrees at the 22nd convocation.
He stated that education was a powerful tool for ensuring equality. ‘One can earn money without education, but with education, no one can take it away from you. Education and experience cannot be stolen.’
‘Graduates should first take care of their families, be mindful of their country, and be compassionate toward others. The quality and sincerity of teachers are extremely important,’ he added.
SMA Faiz congratulated the graduates participating in the convocation.
‘We should take lessons on how to guide society towards justice, liberation, and freedom,’ said Salimullah Khan, expressing his pleasure at hearing that AIUB had successfully completed 22 convocation ceremonies.
He also told the students that a university was never private in society; a university was the property of the nation.
Nadia Anwar welcomed all graduates, stating that this was not the end, it was just the beginning. ‘This campus will always be your home, and we will always be your biggest fans. No matter where life takes you, AIUB will cheer you on, celebrate your wins, and support you when you need it.’
