Leaders of Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad, a combine of 16 labour rights bodies, on Tuesday handed over a memorandum to the labour adviser of the interim government at the Bangladesh Secretariat for implementation of their nine-point demand.

The demands included announcement of national minimum wage of Tk 30,000 per month, formation of a permanent wage commission, introducing free trade unionism and stopping appointing workers through outsourcing.


Prior to the handing over the memorandum, the SKOP held a rally in front of the National Press Club and its joint convener Chowhury Ashiqul Islam presided over the rally.

Veteran labour leader Abdul Kader Hawlader said at the rally that more than seven crore workers of the country were deprived of their rights.

He called on the interim government to take steps for increasing wages of the workers and establishing their rights.

Labour leaders Sifuzaman Badsha, Shamim Ara, Ahsan Habib Bulbul, Kazi Ruhul Amin, Fayez Ahmed and others spoke at the rally.

After the rally a delegation of SKOP leaders handed over the memorandum to the labour adviser, M Sakhawat Hussain.
