
No case was filed till Tuesday night over Monday鈥檚 clash between Bangladesh Air Force personnel and locals reportedly over the construction of an airbase on Khas land in Samitipara area in Cox鈥檚 Bazar that left a man dead and scores of others injured.
The deceased was Shihab Kabir Nahid, 32, son of Nasir Uddin of Mandalpara area under Ramu upazila in the district. His family has been living in Samitipara area for the past 20 years.
Four air force members, including an official, were also injured in the clash that continued more than four hours beginning at about 10:00am on Monday.
Cox鈥檚 Bazar Sadar Model Police Station officer-in-charge Md Elias Khan said that no case was filed over the incident either from the victim family or the BAF.
鈥榃e are yet to record any case. We have not detained anyone so far in this connection,鈥 he said.
A tense situation persisted in the area on Tuesday, a day after the clash, said local people.
The OC, however, said that the situation was now normal.
The victim Shihab was buried at a graveyard in Mandalpara area under Ramu upazila after his namaz-e-janaza.
The victim鈥檚 father, Md Nasir Uddin, said that they would decide on filing the case after consulting with the other family members.
鈥楤angladesh Air Force members opened fire indiscriminately and a bullet unfortunately hit my son,鈥 Md Nasir told 抖阴精品 on Tuesday.
The inquest report of Shihab said that he died as his brain came out, but did not mention any bullet or how it happened.
The Inter Services Public Relation Directorate in a press release on Monday claimed that they opened blank fires that were not lethal and such fires only created sound.
The ISPR in the press release, referring to the Bangladesh Air Force, said that local 鈥榤iscreants鈥 attacked the air force base in Cox鈥檚 Bazar suddenly after members of the force had stopped a motorcyclist at a checkpoint outside the base.
It said that they took the motorcyclist inside the base for questioning as he did not have valid documents.
Local people alleged that the clash began at about 10:00am, about an hour after a lawyer namely Jahedul Islam was reportedly picked up by Air Force personnel, taken to the airbase, and beaten for protesting at the construction of the airbase in Samitipara area by evicting people from khas land.
