
Commerce secretary Mahbubur Rahman on Wednesday urged all concerned to work sincerely for keeping the prices of commodities under control in the country.
Mahbubur made the call while exchanging views with the officials of the Ministry of Commerce and the chiefs of the various departments and agencies under the Ministry of Commerce held at the Ministry Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday.
Putting emphasis on properly implementing the programmes undertaken by the government to keep the consumers at ease and comfort during the ensuing month of Ramadan, he said, 鈥淜eeping prices of commodities under control is our priority programme鈥.
He also asked the officials concerned to strengthen the operations of the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh.
This was the first official meeting of the new Commerce Secretary with the staffers of the ministry and its subordinate bodies after joining office, said a ministry press release.
Bangladesh Competition Commission chairperson AHM Ahsan, director general of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Mohammad Alim Akhter Khan, Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission chairman Moinul Khan, commerce ministry additional secretary (export) M Abdur Rahim Khan, additional secretary (director general, trade organizations) Mohammad Navid Shafiullah, additional secretary (WTO) Naznin Kawser Chowdhury, additional secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akhter, and Trading Corporation of Bangladesh chairman Brigadier General Mohammad Foyshol Azad were present, among others, on the occasion.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mahbubur Rahman was promoted to the rank of secretary from additional secretary and thus was posted to the Ministry of Commerce.
