At least 10 Bangladesh Nationalist Party members were injured in a factional clash over control of a launch ghat in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali on Thursday.

Witnesses said that the clash erupted at Tamaruddi Launch Ghat between two rival BNP groups, leaving 10 people injured, including Laila Begum, Kamrul Islam, Aklima Begum, and Nafisa Begum.

The injured were admitted to the upazila health complex, and Laila Begum, in critical condition, was transferred to the district hospital for better treatment.

According to locals, Awami League leader Golam Maula Kajal previously held the lease of Tamaruddi Launch Ghat. However, on August 5, BNP leader Alamgir took control of ghat activities.

Later, Alamgir reached a settlement with Kajal, allowing him to maintain the control.

This move was opposed by Tamruddi Union BNP president Tanvir Haider, whose supporters attempted to seize the control of the ghat on Thursday at about 8:00am.

A clash broke out when Alamgir鈥檚 supporters resisted, leading to the involvement of local residents, including women from nearby worker families.

Upon receiving reports of the violence, police, the navy, and the Tamaruddi coast guard intervened to restore order.

BNP leader Alamgir denied any involvement with the ghat but claimed that lessee Golam Maula Kajal took 42 percent of its daily earnings.

Tanvir Haider declined to comment but previously told some media outlets that Alamgir had been expelled from BNP for various misdeeds and was occupying the ghat through an arrangement with the AL leader.

Hatiya police station inspector (investigation) Khorshed Alam confirmed the clash, stating that he heard that two people were injured.

Police, the coast guard, and the navy arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control, he added.
