Leaders of Samajtantrik Mahila Forum at a protest rally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday demanded arrest and trial of the persons involved in the recent incidents of rape and violence against women.

They also demanded the government to ensure safety of women everywhere, including the public transport and an end to all misogynistic activities, including the attempt to change the name of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur

President of the forum, Shampa Basu, condemned and protested at the recent rape, harassment and violence against women at the rally.

Referring to several incidents of rape, killing, harassment and violence against women, she said that the government had played an indifferent role to bring the culprits to book to stop further incidents.

‘The involved persons must be brought to book immediately,’ demanded Shampa.

The forum’s Dhaka Metropolitan unit cultural secretary Susmita Moriom said that the government must ensure safety of women.

She also said that a vested group was trying conspiracy to remove the name of Begum Rokeya, a prominent feminist thinker, writer and educator, from the name of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur.

Susmita demanded the authorities concerned to take actions against such activities.

The forum’s Dhaka Metropolitan unit general secretary Rukhsana Afroj Asha, organising secretary Sharifa Begum and office secretary Laboni Akter, among others, spoke at the rally.Â
