
Social Islami Bank PLC has donated Tk 36 lakh to Dhaka University to support scholarships for underprivileged students with special needs.
SIBL chairman professor M Sadiqul Islam handed over the cheque to Dhaka University vice-chancellor professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, at a ceremony held at the Dhaka University Alumni Association鈥檚 alumni floor in the capital on Friday.
SIBL鈥檚 acting managing director Md Nazmus Saadat and other dignitaries attended the event.
In his address, Niaz Ahmed Khan commended SIBL for supporting financially struggling students despite the bank鈥檚 own financial challenges.
He acknowledged the leadership鈥檚 efforts in stabilizing the bank after past financial difficulties.
M Sadiqul Islam emphasised the need for collective responsibility in preventing students from dropping out due to financial constraints.
He urged the Alumni Association to create a fund for disadvantaged students and assured the bank鈥檚 continued support.
Acting managing director Md Nazmus Saadat highlighted SIBL鈥檚 efforts to recover from past mismanagement and stressed the importance of fighting corruption.
A scholarship recipient, Zakaria, expressed his gratitude, saying the support keeps their hopes alive and inspires him to help others in the future.
