
A leader of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, youth front of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was expelled from the organisation midnight past Friday on charge of demanding extortion from hawkers in Sylhet city.
The leader is Joydev Chowdhury Madhav, the joint organising secretary of the Sylhet city unit of the Juba Dal, said a press release issued by the JD鈥檚 central assistant office secretary, Minhazul Islam Bhuiyan, midnight past Friday.
According to the press release, Madhav was expelled from the organisation on allegations of his involvement in activities that go against the organisation鈥檚 discipline.
鈥楳adhab has been expelled from all committees of the Juba Dal, and his primary membership has been suspended,鈥 the press release said, adding that the organisation will not take responsibility for any misdeeds of the expelled leader.
Earlier at around 9:00pm on Friday, a group of around 50 street vendors blocked the Zindabazar road, a busy road in Sylhet city centre protesting at the alleged demand for extortion money from them and taking away two of their fellows by Madhav for not paying the extortion.
On information, Sylhet city BNP general secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury went to the spot and persuaded the agitating hawkers to lift their blockade at around 10:00pm, assuring them of resolving the matter.
