
Eight people, including four children, sustained severe burn injuries in a fire caused by a gas pipeline leak at a tin-shed house in Siddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj early Monday.
The victims are Sohag, 23, Rupali, 20, and their one-year-old daughter Sumaiya, Hannan, 40, Lucy, 30, Zannat, 3, Samia, 9, and Md Sabbir, 16.
According to Muhammad Rubel, a relative of one of the affected families, the fire broke out at about 3:30am due to a gas leak explosion, engulfing the house in flames.
‘All eight people inside suffered burn injuries,’ he said.
They were rushed to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka at about 4:30am, he added.
Resident surgeon of the burn institute Shaon Bin Rahman confirmed the incident, stating that most victims were in critical condition with major burns.
Among the injured, Hannan suffered 45 per cent burns, Lucy 22 per cent, Jannat 3 per cent, Samia 7 per cent, Sabbir 27 per cent, Sohag 40 per cent, Rupali 34 per cent, and Sumaiya 44 per cent.
