A convict who was sentenced to three months in prison and who had been on the run for 21 years to avoid arrest was finally arrested.
On Monday night, police arrested him in front of the central mosque in Feni town.
The convict is Mizanur Rahman Hanif, also known as Manik, 40, son of Saiyed Rahman from Kazirhat Aurarkhil village under Char Darbesh union of Sonagazi upazila in Feni.
According to the police, Hanif was sentenced to three months in prison by a family court in 2003. An arrest warrant was issued against Hanif since he went into hiding at the time.
To evade both his sentence and arrest, he remained in hiding for 21 years.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested him in the central mosque area in Feni town on Monday night, said Bayezid Akon, officer-in-charge of Sonagazi model police station.
He added that Hanif was sent to prison following court procedures.
