
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday filed a case against four people, including two former vice-chancellors of the Jashore University of Science & Technology, on charges of irregularities and corruption in recruitment at the university.
The anti-graft agency also filed two separate cases against former land minister Narayan Chandra Chanda and his wife Usha Rani Chanda on charges of amassing illegal assets worth Tk 2.41 crore.
ACC deputy assistant director Jalal Uddin filed the case against two former Jashore University of Science and Technology VCs Md Abdus Sattar and Md Anwar Hossain along with JUST microbiology department teacher Md Iqbal Kabir Ahmed and Rajshahi University botany department teacher Mosammat Ferdousi Begum with its integrated district office in Jashore, said ACC director general Akhtar Hossain on Tuesday.
According to the case statement, the accused in collusion with each other breached trust for their personal gain by engaging in corruption and violating university鈥檚 laws, recruitment policies and UGC guidelines by illegally appointing Md Iqbal Kabir to the position of assistant professor, despite him lacking the necessary qualifications and experiences.
The unlawful act resulted in a total of Tk 1.13 crore being withdrawn from the university鈥檚 funds as salary and allowances from June 2009 to April 2023.
The ACC filed two separate cases against Narayan and his wife Usha on charges of amassing assets worth Tk 2.41 crore illegally.
The cases were filed with ACC鈥檚 integrated district office in Khulna, said ACC director general Akhtar Hossain at a press briefing at the commission鈥檚 headquarter in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday.
A case was filed against Narayan on charges of amassing assets worth Tk聽1.79 crore through corruption during his tenure as the member of parliament for the Khulna-5 constituency and as the minister of fisheries and livestock and later as the land minister.
Another case was filed against Usha on charges of amassing assets worth Tk 62 lakh illegally.
