
The Border Guard Bangladesh seized smuggled goods worth over Tk 170.18 crore from the bordering areas in the month of February, said a BGB press release.
The seized contraband items included 2.529kg of gold, 85.400 grams of silver, 8,784 saris, 6,811 three-piece, shirt piece, chadar and blanket, 7,204 ready-made garments, 3,39,920 cosmetics, 7,166 imitation jewellery, 1,686,739 fireworks, 6,782 cubic feet of wood, 2,434kg of tea leaves, 48,839kg of betel nut, 2,69,824kg of sugar, 4,093kg of fertiliser, 32 litres of diesel, 23,820kg of coal, 1,310 cubic feet of stone, 559 mobiles, 3,852 mobile displays, 30,624 glasses, 670kg edible oil, 4,336kg of onion, 2,483kg of garlic, 13,406kg of cumin, 2,835kg of raisins, 1,91,591 pieces of chocolate, 9 trucks, 11 pickups, 2 microbuses, 1 covered van, 1 tractor, 46 boats, 27 easy bikes, 44 motorcycles and 31 bicycles.
The BGB also seized weapons include two pistols, two guns, two magazines, five bullets, one mortar shell and 69 hand grenades in the month.
A large quantity of drugs and narcotics was also seized by the BGB in February, including 1,159,748 pieces of yaba tablets, 5.878kg heroin, 2.297kg cocaine, 23,044 bottles of phensedyl, 14,935 bottles of foreign liquor, 713 bottles of canned beer, 2,693kg hemp and 40,914 narcotic tablets, injections.聽
In addition, the BGB demolished poppy in 28.5 acres of land in Bandarban district.
The BGB also arrested 134 smugglers on charges of involvement in various types of drug trafficking, including yaba.
It also took legal action against 281 Bangladeshi citizens and 13 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border.
Besides, 931 Myanmar citizens were pushed back to their country in February as they were trying to enter Bangladesh, said the official release.
