
A mob allegedly beat three people and torched a motorcycle suspecting them to be robbers at Golabganj upazila in Sylhet early Wednesday.
On information, a team of the army reached the spot at around 4:00am and rescued the victims, police said.
The victims are Jamir Uddin, 38, son of Abdul Jalil of Haripur under 鈥嬧婮aintapur upazila, Fakhrul Islam, 32, of Baitikar village at Golabganj upazila and Zaynal Abedin, 26, of Moglabazar under Dakshin Surma upazila in the district, the police said.
Local people said that a panic of robbers was spread at the Golabganj upazila from midnight past Tuesday and announcements were made in this regard by using microphones of different village mosques in the area.聽
Hearing the announcements, villagers came out on the streets. At around 2:00am, the three people on a motorcycle reached Nimadal Mokambazar of the upazila when the mob beat them up and set their motorcycle on fire suspecting them to be robbers.
Golabganj police officer-in-charge Md Moniruzzaman Molla confirmed the mob attack to 抖阴精品.
He said that the police rushed to the area but could not reach the spot due to resistance by the agitating villagers. Later at around 4:00am, a patrol team of the army rescued the victims and admitted them to the local upazila health complex, the police officer said.
鈥楢 villager filed a case with the police against the suspected robbers. They were sent to be produced before the district judicial magistrate court seeking its order over the issue,鈥 the police officer said.
