Number nine, Alauddin Babu, smashed a blistering 32-ball 78 as Partex Sporting Club secured an unlikely three-wicket win against Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at the BKSP-3 on Thursday.
Chasing 299, Partex were 214-7 in the 41st over with Rubel Mia (41), Sabbir Rahman (53 off 43), and Aharar Amin Paean (44) giving them some hope.
Alauddin then came with all guns blazing as Prime Bank bowlers seemed clueless. After reaching his fifty in 23 balls, Alauddin hit seven sixes with five fours in his unbeaten knock, which sealed the victory with 12 balls to spare.
Alauddin and Mohor Sheikh made 89 off 46 balls for the eighth wicket, where the latter鈥檚 contribution was just nine off 18.
Before that, Prime Bank posted 299-8 in 50 overs thanks to Naim Sheikh (46), Shahadat Hossain (64 off 61), and Shamim Hossain (69 off 60).
Alauddin and Mohor鈥擯artex鈥檚 batting heroes鈥攖ook two wickets each.
In the day鈥檚 other match, Parvez Hossain鈥檚 126 off 124 set up defending champions Abahani Limited鈥檚 162-run win over Gulshan Cricket Club at the BKSP-4.
Put into bat first, Abahani posted 323-6 in 50 overs thanks to Parvez鈥檚 ton, Mohammad Mithun鈥檚 72 (65), and contributions from Mosaddek Hossain (35 off 28) and Mahfuzur Rabby (28 off 14).
Gulshan then managed only 161 in 29.4 overs. Liton Das, who was dropped from Bangladesh's Champions Trophy squad, managed only 14 off 21.
Rakibul Hasan took four wickets while Mrittunjoy Chowdhury took three.
At the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mohammedan beat Rupganj Tigers comfortably by seven wickets.听
Sending Tigers to bat first, all of Mohammedan's bowlers were among the wickets as they restricted them to 222-9.
Tamim Iqbal fell early in the chase, but Mahidul Islam (81* off 97) and Towhid Hridoy (74* off 47) put an unbroken partnership of 119 runs from 88 balls to take Mohammedan to their first victory of the season with more than 12 overs remaining.
Mushfiqur Rahim, who announced his ODI retirement the night before, contributed with two catches and one stumping as his batting wasn鈥檛 needed.
