The eight-year-old child raped while visiting her elder sister at her in-laws’ Magura home early Thursday was still unconscious at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday.

The police have arrested the victim’s brother-in-law and his father in connection with the incident.

The child was brought unconscious to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday night, said Mohammad Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost.

She was still unconscious as of 7:30pm on Friday.

She has been kept at the paediatric intensive care unit at the hospital and would be put on life support if her condition worsens even further, the DMCH officials said.

After she was taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, they referred her to the DMCH, he said.

‘It was initially believed that the child was raped in the house. Based on accusations from the child’s family, the police took victim’s brother-in-law and his father in custody for interrogation on Thursday,’ the OC added.

The child reportedly had a mark on her neck and scratches on several parts of her body.
