Biman Bangladesh Airlines has commissioned 32 advanced ground support equipment as part of its preparations to provide world-class ground handling services for the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Biman’s board of directors’ chairman Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh chairman air-vice-marshal Md Manjur Kabir Bhuiyan and Biman’s managing director and chief executive officer Shafiqul Rahman were present at an event for commissioning the equipment in Dhaka, said a press release on Thursday.


Biman would be fully equipped with all necessary gears and human resources before the third terminal became operational, said Muyeed Chowdhury, adding that through continuous investment in modern equipment, workforce expansion and training programmes, Biman remained committed to maintaining excellence in ground handling operations.

Despite limited facilities, Biman has been efficiently managing ground handling operations, sated CAAB chairman, adding that with the modern facilities of the third terminal, the airline would be able to maintain international standard.

The Biman procured six types of equipment at a cost of Taka 54 crore to enhance operational efficiency and improve handling capacity.

The commissioned equipment includes two advanced aircraft container pallet loaders from OSHKOSH, US; 12 aircraft container pallet transporters and nine belt loaders from TLD, France; two aircraft air conditioning units with a 115-ton capacity and five units with a 65-ton capacity from TLD, United States; and two air start units from Guinault, France.
