Six members of a family, including three women, were burnt in a gas stove blast at a flat in Koralia area of Chandpur district town early Sunday.

The injured are Abdur Rahman Sardar, 70, his wife Shahanur Begum, 60, elder son Imam Hossain, 40, his wife Khadija Akhter, 32, another son鈥檚 wife Nipa Akhter, 26, and younger son Moin, 18.


The accident occurred on the fourth floor of Zakir Hossain鈥檚 house on the Koralia Sahabari Road of the town.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Chandpur government general hospital. Of them, four were sent to Dhaka as their condition deteriorated.

Of the injured, Imam Hossain and Nipa Akhter are undergoing treatment at Chandpur general hospital and the rest at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka as they sustained over 60 per cent burn injuries.

Mahmud, nephew of injured Abdur Rahman, said that the gas leakage from the pipeline caused an explosion when they were lighting the stove for preparing Sehri.

After hearing their screaming, locals rescued and took them to Chandpur general hospital, he added.

Mahmudul Hasan, a physician at the emergency department of the hospital, said that four critically injured victims were referred to Dhaka as their condition was critical.
