
Another pregnant woman files rape case in NarsingdiÂ
A four-and-a-half-month-pregnant woman was reportedly raped by three auto-rickshaw drivers between Saturday night and early Sunday at South Keraniganj in Dhaka.
Another seven-month-pregnant woman filed a case against five people with the Madhabdi police on allegation of rape at Pachdona union of Narsingdi’s Madhabdi upazila on Saturday.
Mozammel Haque Manik, a teacher at Kachubari Madarganj Government Primary School in Thakurgaon, meanwhile, was arrested on charges of raping a Class V student and he was beaten when he was being produced before a court on Sunday.
In South Keraniganj incident, police arrested two of the accused, Mohammad Ashraful and Dwip Sarakar, following the incident as the victim filed a case with the South Keraniganj police station early Sunday under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, according to police.
South Keraniganj Janjira police outpost in-charge inspector Mohammad Mosharaf Hossain Mia said that the 20-year-old woman came to Dhaka from Matlab in Chandpur being angry with her husband.
‘The accused took her to an abandoned house at Pangao at South Keraniganj promising to provide her with food and accommodation and raped her there,’ the inspector said.Â
The incident took place at a time when anti-rape protests erupted in Dhaka as elsewhere across the country demanding capital punishment for rapists.
South Keraniganj police officer-in-charge Mazharul Islam said that the pregnant woman alleged that she was taken to an abandoned house at Wrishipara by four battery-run auto-rickshaw drivers.
‘Three of them raped the woman and the other one assisted them. The incident took place between 10:30pm on Saturday and 1:00am on Sunday,’ the OC said quoting the victim.
The victim was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital One-Stop Crisis Centre for a medical test, the OC said, adding that they are trying to arrest the other two accused in the case.
He also said that they had sent the two arrested to the court.
The 23-year-old victim of the Madhabdi incident lodged a complaint with the Madhabdi police on Saturday naming two of the accused, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Narsingdi reported quoting the police station officer-in-charge Md Nazrul Islam.
According to police, the victim was living at a rented house in Bhagirathpur with her husband who was jailed in a case linked to the July movement.
Police arrested a man named Iqbal Hossain, 43, in this regard. Another accused is Pappu Mia, 29, a resident of the same area.
Earlier, from February 19 to February 21, the housewife was raped after being locked in a room on the second floor in a seven-storey building located at the Panchdona intersection of the Madhabdi police station at Narsingdi Sadar.
After the victim’s complaint, Madhabdi police visited the scene on Friday night.
Local people in Narsingdi beat a madrassah security guard, Md Saiful Islam, 50, over allegations of sexually harassing a six-year-old child. Later, The incident took place at a madrassah in the Gabtali area in Dhaka city at around 8:00pm on Saturday.
The accused Md Saiful Islam, a resident of Muradnagar area of Comilla district, was rescued by the members of the joint force.
Mozammel Haque Manik, a teacher at Kachubari Madarganj Government Primary School in Thakurgaon, was arrested on charges of raping a Class V student, United News of Bangladesh reported.
While being escorted to court on Sunday, Manik was beaten by a group of protesting people in the presence of police officers.
Manik was being taken to the court of Thakurgaon additional chief judicial magistrate Shariful Islam.
