
Law adviser Asif Nazrul on Sunday said that the government took decision to amend concerned law to ensure quick trial in rape case.
He said that the trial in rape case would be completed in 90 days instead of now 180 days under the existing women and children repression prevention act and the probe would have to be completed within 15 days.
Asif Nazrul came up with the information in a press conference at Law ministry in the secretary in Dhaka.
He also said that the probe in rape cases would have to be completed within 15 days and trial would have to be completed by 90 days.
Earlier, the accused used to get bail if the trial was not completed within 180 days in rape cases; but now the accused will not be granted bail.
Asif Nazrul said that the government would complete drafting of the amendment of the law.
Expressing concern over the incidents of violence against women, including child rape in Magura, he also said that the government would introduce a toll free hotline number to receive complaint and take action against women harassment.
Addressing at the press conference, home adviser Jahangir Hossain said that the government would follow zero tolerance policy against violence against women.
He also said that banned organisation Hizb ut Tahrir on Friday brought out procession in Dhaka but the government would not allow any banned organisation to do any activities in the country.
Information and broadcasting adviser Mahfuj Alam said that the government would deal any kind of mob attacks with iron hands.
‘We follow zero tolerance against mob violence and strict measures will be taken against people involved with mob attacks,’ he said.
He also said that the government took decision that from today the government would not tolerate any kind of mob attacks and maintain law and order situation strictly.
