PRAN on Sunday became title sponsor of Ikramul Hasan Shakil, who aims to reach the Mount Everest from sea level by covering the longest distance in the shortest time, in an event in Dhaka, said a press release.

Noodles brand Mr Noodles has joined as snacks partner for this expedition.

Shakil is the first Bangladeshi mountaineer to successfully complete the 鈥楪reat Himalaya Trail.鈥

In his address, Shakil said that he began his expedition on February 25 from Inani Sea Beach of Cox鈥檚 Bazar, aiming to reach the summit within 90 days on foot. After traversing through Feni, Cumilla and Munshiganj he has now arrived in Dhaka, he added.

His journey will take him through Bangladesh, India and Nepal, covering a challenging 1,300-kilometre route before ascending Everest鈥檚 29,031-foot-high summit.

Through this journey, Shakil aspires to surpass the record set by Australian mountaineer Tim Macartney, who in 1990, took more than three months to walk from Ganga Sagar, India, to Everest鈥檚 summit, setting a world record, the release said.

The expedition is organised by Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club. The United Nations Development Programme, Makalu E-Traders Nepal and Systema Toothbrush have also joined as associate sponsors.

PRAN-RFL Group director (marketing) Kamruzzaman Kamal, BMTC founder Enam Ul Haque, president MA Mohit, UNDP communications head Md Abdul Quayyum, Lion Kallol Limited (Systema Toothbrush) marketing director Tonmoy Datta Gupta and Mr Noodles general manager Toshan Paul, among others, were present.
