M Aminul Islam, chief adviser’s special assistant who was assigned to the education ministry, on Monday resigned from his post following a request from the Chief Adviser’s Office.

‘I resigned from my position happily following a request from the office of chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to resign yesterday (Sunday) or today (Monday),’ he told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

However, responding to a question whether there was any such request from the Chief Adviser’s Office, chief adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam at a press briefing on Monday said that they did not have any information regarding this.

Aminul said that he had submitted his resignation letter to the Cabinet Division through his personal secretary in the afternoon.

After submitting the letter, he left the secretariat in the capital Dhaka at about 2:00pm.

A source close to Aminul said that no files were sent to Aminul though he had the executive power in the ministry.

The former adviser allegedly had made all the decisions regarding the ministry by himself and if the former special assistant tried to do anything, the former adviser ultimately cancelled those moves, the source said.

Md Rashed Khan, general secretary of the Gono Adhikar Parishad, a political party, shared two Facebook posts regarding the resignation.

His first post reads: ‘Aminul Islam, the special assistant to the chief adviser, has been forced to resign to install people like them. They cannot trust anyone except NGO personalities in all sectors.’

One hour later he shared another post: ‘Aminul Islam sir wanted to meet the chief adviser before resigning, but the NGOs did not give him the opportunity. The NGOs are busy occupying everything in line with foreign plans.’

Bangladesh’s interim government chief adviser had appointed three special assistants with the status of state minister, including Aminul, on November 10 past year.

Later, he was given executive power to assist the then adviser for the education ministry, Wahiduddin Mahmud.

Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, widely known as CR Abrar, a retired professor of international relations at Dhaka University and a human rights activist, took oath as an adviser on March 5.

Same day he joined the education ministry as adviser and Wahiduudin has remained as the planning ministry adviser only.
