A woman was raped in a rubber plantation hill in Sylhet, and the police have arrested two people in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the Chharagang area of Khadim Nagar union under Sylhet Airport Police Station.
The arrested people are Mohammad Rakib Mia, son of Anwar Hossain of village Doluipara under Shah Paran Police Station, and Abdur Rahim, son of Hasem Mia of Gol Pirer Bazar in the North Mokam area under the same police station.
According to police and local sources, the woman is mentally unstable. She was taken to the rubber plantation in Chharagang area and raped. During the incident, workers of the plantation saw the victim. Local people later rescued the woman and took her to Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police ADC (media) Mohammad Saiful Islam said, 鈥楧uring initial questioning, the two arrested individuals confessed to being involved in the rape. Legal action is currently underway.鈥�
The officer-in-charge of the Airport Police Station, Syed Anisur Rahman, said, 鈥楾he police have launched an investigation into the matter and have collected CCTV footage from surrounding areas.鈥�
