Tamim Iqbal smashed his second successive hundred as Mohammedan Sporting Club thrashed Brothers Union by nine wickets in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at the BKSP-3 on Wednesday.
Electing to field first, Mohammedan bowlers restricted Brothers to 187 in 48.4 overs, with left-arm spinner Taijul Islam taking 4-31 while left-arm pacer Abu Haider grabbed 3-24.
Chasing a moderate target, Tamim and Mahidul Islam put on an unbroken second wicket stand of 187 from 192 deliveries after losing Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the first over.
Tamim took 55 balls to reach his fifty while needing 39 for his second one. He remained unbeaten on 105 off 96 balls that included nine fours and four sixes. Mahidul scored 75 off 96 balls.
This was Mohammedan鈥檚 third consecutive win after losing the first one.
However, Legends of Rupganj remained at the top of the table due to a better run rate, which was further improved after they thrashed Prime Bank Cricket Club by eight wickets at the BKSP-4.
Put into bat first, Prime Bank kept losing wickets at regular intervals despite Naim Sheikh holding the other end.
Naim was the ninth batter of the innings to fall after scoring 81 off 83 with four boundaries and five sixes. But none could give him company as the highest partnership of 43 runs came for the seventh wicket between Naim and Rishad Hossain.
Saif Hassan took 4-37 while Tanzim Hasan took three wickets for Rupganj.
Prime Bank managed to score 152 in 29.2 overs, which Rupganj chased down in 23.2 overs. Tanzid Hasan made 68 off 49, hitting seven fours and five sixes. Soumya Sarkar remained unbeaten on 50 off 40.
The match between Partex Sporting Club and Abahani Limited at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium was another one-sided affair as the latter won by eight wickets.
Partex were all out for 100 runs in 33.1 overs after being put into bat first as left-arm spinner Mahfuzur Rabby took 5-18 runs after coming to bowl at the fifth bowler.
Rakibul Hasan and Mosaddek Hossain each took two wickets.
However, Partex were at one point 65-1 in 17.3 overs before Sabbir Rahman was dismissed by Rakibul. That triggered a spectacular collapse where Partex lost nine wickets for just 35 runs.
This was the second successive match where the team batting first got dismissed in or below 100 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium after Shinepukur made just 69 on the previous day.
Abahani were unperturbed in chasing a small total as they got home in just 14.3 overs despite losing the first two wickets for just 21 runs.
Parvez Hossain remained unbeaten on 55 off 50 while Mosaddek made 37 off 27. Their unbroken partnership of 80 off 56 got Abahani home.
