The local office of the Anti-Corruption Commission has lodged two separate cases against two former Upazila Chairmen in Rajshahi on charges of accumulating illegal wealth.

According to the ACC sources, the accused are Jahangir Alam, former chairman of Godagari Upazila and Lutfor Haider Rashid Moina, former chairman of Tanore Upazila – both Juba League leaders.

ACC assistant director Muhammad Zinnatul Islam lodged the cases with the commission’s district office on Thursday, confirmed deputy director Fazlul Bari.

Citing the preliminary investigation report, Fazlul Bari said that the two were involved in various corrupt activities for a long time through their connection with former Rajshahi-1 lawmaker Omor Faruque Chowdhury.

During the investigation, ACC found evidence that Jahangir Alam had illegally acquired wealth worth Tk 1,11,65,000. Additionally, he possessed movable and immovable wealth worth Tk 7,71,11,000.

On the other hand, Lutfor Haider Rashid illegally obtained wealth worth Tk 49,68,000. He has total wealth amounting to Tk 1,14,42,000 including immovable wealth of Tk 42,36,000 and movable wealth of Tk 69,05,000.

Fazlul Bari said that they repeatedly served notices to the two individuals to submit their wealth reports, but they didn’t pay heed and had remained in hiding since the ousting of the previous regime on August 5 last year.
