At least five people were killed and eight injured in road accidents in Gazipur, Munshiganj and Tangail on Saturday.

The ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Gazipur reported that three people were killed and two others injured when a brick-laden truck collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Maona-Phulbaria road at Namashulai under Kaliakair in Gazipur.


The deceased were CNG driver Obaidur Rahman, 42, resident of Soniartek area of Jamalpur Sadar, Md Aziz, 65, and his wife Sufia Begum, 55, of Shaldah Borochal area of Kaliakair.

Kaliakair police station sub-inspector Kamrul Hasan said that the injured were taken to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex.

The ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Munshiganj reported that a 55-year-old farmer Md Kamal Sheikh was killed after an unknown vehicle hit the auto-rickshaw he was riding on the Malkhanagar-Ichapur road of Sirajdikhan in the district. 

Sirajdikhan police station officer-in-charge Shahed Al Mamun said that the deceased, a resident of Silimpur village under Tongibari, was traveling to a wholesale market in Dhaka with tomato by auto-rickshaw.

The vehicle was struck by another, causing the auto-rickshaw to fall into a ditch, resulting in Kamal’s death on the spot, the OC said.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that a worker was killed and six others, including the Gorai highway police OC Masud Khan, were injured when a truck hit another one which overturned on the Dhaka-Tangail highway at Mirzapur Bypass area. 

The deceased was Elias, 35, hailed from Rangpur district.

‘A potato-laden truck turned upside down on the highway as its drive lost control over the vehicle. When police and others were remove the truck and potatoes from the highway, another truck hit the vehicle from behind, leaving one dead and injuring six others, including the OC, a sergeant and two policemen,’ said Gorai highway police station SI Siraj.

The injured were taken to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital, he added.
