
Mominul Haque missed a ton, yet Abahani Limited maintained their winning streak as they beat Brothers Union by 80 runs to secure their fourth consecutive victory in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at the BKSP-3 on Saturday.
After being put into bat first, Abahani scored 310-8 in 50 overs after Mominul Haque鈥檚 74-ball 92 featuring 11 boundaries and Mohammad Mithun鈥檚 71 off 86 deliveries as they amassed 143 runs for the fourth wicket, the sixth highest partnership of the ongoing season.
In reply, Brothers stumbled to 230-7 in the allotted overs; captain Myshukur Rahman scored a gritty 84 off 78, and Mizanur Rahman and Alok Kapali contributed 45 and 33 runs, respectively.
Five of the seven bowlers used by Abahani were among the wickets as SM Meherob and Mosaddek Hossain took two wickets each. With this win, Abahani climbed to the top of the table.
In another game, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed shared seven wickets between them as Mohammedan Sporting Club defeated Legends of Rupganj by 94 runs at the Sher-e Bangla National Stadium.
Tawhid Hridoy (66), Mahidul Islam (42), and Rony Talukdar (36) helped Mohammedan set a total of 253-9 in 50 overs after being invited to bat first. Shoriful Islam took 4-54.
Then Mehidy with 4-38 and Taskin with 3-33 bundled out Rupganj for 159 in 37.2 overs.
Chasing the target, Rupganj lost half of their batters and at one stage became 51-5 within the first powerplay. Mahadi Hasan showed some resistance by scoring the team鈥檚 highest 45, while Jaker Ali scored 25, as others perished before crossing the 20-run mark.
In the day鈥檚 other match, Gazi Group Cricketers handed a crushing 94-run defeat to Prime Bank Cricket Club, thanks to a strong collective effort from their bowlers at the BKSP-4.
Gazi managed to score 183 all after being put into bat first. Anamul Haque top-scored with 48 off 44 deliveries while Aminul Islam Biplob contributed 35 runs.
Nahidul Islam and Arafat Sunny took three wickets each for Prime Bank.
In pursuit of a meagre target, Prime Bank were skittled out for 89-10 in 23.2 overs as they lost wickets in quick succession with only four of the batters crossing double digits. Coming in at number eight, Rishad Hossain made 21.
For Gazi, Abu Hasim scalped three, and Leon Islam and Parvez Jibon each picked up a couple of wickets to ensure their big win.
