
The Communist Party of Bangladesh on Saturday held their scheduled rally braving threats issued on social media against the organisation.
The rally was held in front of the central office of the CPB at Purana Paltan, which was followed by a mass procession escorted by law enforcers.
The procession ended in front of the National Press Club.
The CPB and some other left political parties announced the programme protesting at the death of the rape victim, an eight-year-old child in Magura.
Online activist Pinaki Bhattacharya, now living in France, in a Facebook post on Friday, urged people to lay siege to the CPB central office, asking them to hold the CPB accountable for supporting Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 15-year regime and taking part in the Ganajagaran Mancha.
In the Facebook post, Pinaki urged revolutionary students and people to go to Purana Paltan in Dhaka city for grabbing the office.
Some of party central leaders and activists and leaders of some political parties gathered in front of the party鈥檚 central office and held a short rally there.
A large number of law enforcers, including police, were seen gathered in front of the CPB central office amid threat.聽聽聽
Mohammad Shah Alam president of the party termed such threat to a political party as undemocratic and urged all political parties to resist the attack.
Addressing a rally in front of the central office, CPB general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince called on the interim government to ensure safety and security of the political party office.
At about 4:30pm on Saturday, they brought out a flag mass procession that ended in front of the National Press Club parading different city roads.
Moreover, some left parties and organisations also held a short rally at Central Shaheed Minar cancelling their pre-scheduled mass procession.
The Left Democratic Alliance, a combine of six left political parties, in a press statement condemned threat of attack on the CPB central office and called on the interim government to ensure safety and security of the office of a political party.
A Signatory of the statement and coordinator of the combine, Iqbal Kabir Jahid, also called on all to refrain from such attack.
Socialist Party Bangladesh general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz and Revolutionary Communist League general secretary and Workers Party of Bangladesh general secretary Nur Ahmed Bakul聽聽聽聽 also called on the interim government to take steps to save the CPB central office.
