
Leaders of the Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad, a combine of 16 labour rights bodies, on Sunday at a rally in Dhaka called on the government and owners of mills and factories to pay wage and festival allowance of the workers by Ramadan 20.
SKOP organised the rally in front of the National Press Club.
Chairing the rally, Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam, joint convener of the SKOP and president of Trade Union Sangha, called on the government and mills, factory owners to take steps to pay wage and festival allowances of the workers by Ramadan 20.
‘The workers of our country are low-paid so they cannot enjoy the Eid-ul Fitr with their family members,’ Ashiqul Alam said.
Labour leader Razequzzaman Ratan demanded the wage of workers of March and also festival allowance equal to basic wage of one month.
Another labour leader Saifuzzaman Badsha called on the mills and factory owners to refrain from terminating workers before the Eid.
Labour leaders Abdul Kader Hawlader, Kazi Ruhul Amin, Shahida Parveen Sikha, Shamim Ara, among others, spoke at the rally.
The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.
