Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto feels that the likes of Nahid Rana should play more in the franchise tournaments like the Pakistan Super League, as it will help them to gather valuable experience.
Bangladesh’s newest pace sensation Nahid was roped in by the Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL draft that was held in January.
Along with Nahid, Liton Das and Rishad Hossain were picked by two other franchises, Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars, respectively.
The next season of the PSL is scheduled to start on April 11 and will run until May 18. However, the schedule will clash with Bangladesh’s two-match Test series against Zimbabwe, where the first Test will start on April 20 while the second will commence on April 28.
Nahid is currently busy in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, where he’s playing for Abahani Limited, a team that is led by Shanto.
When asked about Nahid’s possibility of missing the Zimbabwe series, Shanto said that he was not the sole decision maker in this regard.
‘I think he should play in these types of tournaments; of course he should play in the franchise cricket,’ Shanto told reporters during Abahani’s practice at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.
‘It will depend on the board, coach, and captain—on everything. But I think if our cricketers start to play in these franchise leagues, then they will gather experience and will learn to take the responsibility.
‘This will be a good experience, as they will share the dressing room with others. I hope that our cricketers will get more chances in these types of tournaments in the future,’ added Shanto.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· learnt that Nahid and Rishad had already submitted their application regarding getting the No Objection Certificate from the BCB.
However, when it comes to a pacer like Nahid, workload management is a key issue.
After playing 12 matches for Rangpur Riders in the last BPL, head coach Phil Simmons said that Nahid had his pace declining before regaining it ahead of the Champions Trophy.
But Shanto mentioned that Nahid is being looked after well by Abahani.
‘He’s a great prospect,’ said Shanto. ‘We’ve seen how the cricket world is talking about him. But the best thing is, the national team physio and the people working for Abahani are maintaining his workload very well. He’s playing according to that, and he’s been fit so far by the grace of Allah.’
Nahid has so far played two matches for Abahani, taking three wickets.
Abahani, who are currently at the top of the table, will play Legends of Rupganj today at the BKSP-3.
