
Banned BCL leader arrested in cityÂ
The Awami League and its associate bodies on Monday celebrated the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s 105th birth anniversary on a limited scale at places by holding flash processions, iftar parties and distributing foods.
The processions were brought out in early hours and early morning on the day.
In Dhaka city, about 40 to 50 members of the AL and its banned student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League brought out a procession in the capital’s Segunbagicha area Monday morning.
The duration of the procession was very short and police arrested BCL Barguna district’s Amtali upazila’s Arpangasia union leader Md Mohsin, 24.
Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Khalid Mansur told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they arrested Mohsin following the procession.
‘We produced him to court and the court ordered sending him to jail,’ the OC added.
A video footage of the procession showed the AL leaders and activists chanting different slogans like ‘Shuvo Shuvo Shuvo Din, Bangandhur Janmadin’ and ‘Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu’.
The AL and its associate bodies held iftar parties and cake cutting events on a limited scale in other places in the city.
Banned BCL held programmes in different districts, including Narail, Habiganj and Rangamati.
AL leaders and activists also brought out torch procession at midnight in Gopalganj district to mark the day.
Mujib was born at Tungipara in Gopalganj on this day in 1920.
He was assassinated on August 15, 1975, along with all but two of his family members by a group of army personnel.
