Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday said that the party would form a national government with representatives from pro-democratic political parties and elected public representatives if voted to govern the country.
He made the announcement while addressing an Iftar party hosted by the party in honour of political leaders at the Ladies Club in the capital.
Tarique said that the BNP had set its target to implement necessary reforms in the state and politics through an elected national government to establish a discrimination-free, safe, and democratic Bangladesh.Â
Tarique said that over the past decade and a half, the fascist regime had destroyed not only the country’s education, politics, and economy but also its religious, social and cultural values.
He said that the number of violence against women and children had increased in the country in recent times like that during the previous regime.
Tarique mentioned that the defeated fascist forces would once again create a grave for democracy in the country if the interim government failed to control religious extremists and extremism.
And, at the same time, Bangladesh can face an image crisis in the democratic world, he said.
He said that if the outline of the interim government’s work program and action plan were made clear to the people in the coming days, it would put an end to all the doubts and uncertainties in their minds.
‘There is no need to bring reforms and elections to stand face to face. The country’s crisis should not be prolonged and utmost consideration should be given to the national election,’ the BNP leader said.
Tarique reminded that the fascists were given a final farewell as they did not hold fair and impartial elections in the country.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami nayeb-e-amir Abdullah Mohammad Taher, National Citizen Party convener Nahid Islam, Liberal Democratic Party president Oli Ahmad, Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) faction chairman Mostafa Jamal Haider, Ganosanhati Andolan chief co-ordinator Zonayed Saki and Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur, among others, also spoke.
Bangladesh Khilafat Majlish ameer Mamunul Haque conducted the prayers at the Ifter party.
