Two leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, who sustained injuries in clashes between two Bangladesh Nationalist Party factions in Sirajganj and Bhola, died Wednesday night.
Former JCD leader Kabir Hossain, who received severe injuries in a clash between two BNP factions in Sirajganj鈥檚 Enayetpur area, died to his injuries at a Dhaka hospital.
Kabir is former president of the ward no-2 unit of JCD under Sadia Chandpur Union Parishad of Enayetpur.
Locals said that Rawshan Ali, current UP member and former organising secretary of the union BNP, and Karim Molla, former president of the ward no-2 unit, arranged separate Iftar events in the same area Tuesday afternoon.
Followers of the both groups locked into clashes over the events, leaving 11 people, including Kabir, critically injured, they said.
The injured were admitted to several hospitals. As Kabir鈥檚 condition deteriorated, he was shifted to a private hospital in Dhaka at night and he died to his injuries Wednesday night.
Enayetpur police station鈥檚 officer-in-charge Rawshan Yeazdani said that a murder case was filed in this connection and investigation was also on.
Meanwhile, membership of the upazila unit of BNP鈥檚 former convenor and member secretary Jahangir Kabir Jony and Manjur Rahman Manju were suspended for their alleged involvement in the incident.
The district unit of BNP also formed a three-member body to investigate the incident on Wednesday and asked to submit a report within 48 hours.
Another JCD leader, who was critically injured in a factional clash between two groups of the BNP in Monpura upazila of Bhola, died while being taken to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
The deceased Md Rashed, 27, is former general secretary of a union-level JCD committee, said Monpura police station officer-in-charge Ahsan Kabir.
Rashed sustained severe injuries in the clash, which broke out in the morning at Nuruddin Bazar in South Sakuchia Union鈥檚 ward-9.
According to locals and police, the violence stemmed from a dispute between two factions of the local BNP over the ongoing embankment construction by the Water Development Board.
At least 10 others from both sides were also injured. Rashed was initially admitted to Charfesson Hospital, but as his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Dhaka. However, he died to his injuries at about 9:00pm near Faridpur.
The OC said that both BNP and Awami League supporters were involved in the altercation. Rashed鈥檚 family filed a complaint, and police operations were ongoing to arrest the involved.
The other injured are currently receiving treatment in Charfesson and Monpura hospitals.
