
A Chhatra Dal leader was killed, and at least 10 others were injured in a clash between two groups over forming a school committee in Kotiadi, Kishoreganj, while police detained two suspects linked to the incident.
The clash occurred on Saturday afternoon at Chatol Baghhata School and College in Mumurdia Union of the upazila.
The deceased, Ashik Khan, 24, was the son of Arab Ali Khan of village Chatol in Mumurdia Union and served as the joint convener of Mumurdia Union Chhatra Dal.
According to local people, the violence broke out between supporters of Chhatra Dal Central Committee joint secretary Nuruzzaman Chandon and assistant attorney general Ashikuzzaman Nazrul over forming an ad hoc committee for the school.
At least 10 people, including the acting headmaster of the school, were injured in the clash.
Local people rushed the injured to the hospital, where Ashik died from his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Md Tofazzal Hossain, additional superintendent of police, said, ‘Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Two suspects have been detained, and operations are ongoing to arrest others involved.’
He also said that legal action would be taken based on complaints from the victim’s family.
