All type of internet prices of Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC will decrease by 10 per cent.
This decision was taken at the company鈥檚 board meeting on Saturday. As a result, the company鈥檚 costs will decrease in both mobile internet and broadband services, said a press release issued by the Chief Adviser鈥檚 Press Wing on Sunday.
Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb, chief adviser鈥檚 special assistant on posts, telecommunications and information technology, said that the government had been working to minimise the internet price.
Several initiatives have been taken to ensure that people are getting internet at affordable prices, while reducing prices at wholesale level is one of those, he said.
As a result of this decision, Taiyeb said, the prices of all bandwidths at international gateway level of the internet will be cut by 10 per cent.
In addition, he said, talks continue to provide DWDM facilities to mobile operators at backbone level.
As a result, the cost of transmission for telecom companies will decrease by 39 per cent, the special assistant said.
He said that discussions had already been held with telecom operators on this issue, while the operators were expected to cut the price of internet at consumer鈥檚 level by up to 10 per cent.
Taiyeb said that Bangladesh would be connected to the third submarine cable, South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 6 (SEA-ME-WE 6), by the middle of the next year.
